Injection molding part design review is a structured evaluation of a part's geometry, wall thickness, draft angles, gate locations, and material selection to ensure the design is manufacturable and will perform as intended when produced via injection molding. It is important because catching design flaws before tooling construction prevents costly mold modifications, reduces defects like warpage or sink marks, and shortens time to market.

Orbital Plastics Consulting provides design for injection molding, and we approach this review from what we call the Moldability of the Plastic Part, focusing on the overall molding process. The following are closely considered: part design function and assembly considerations, existing tooling design and construction, existing plastic processing parameters and setup, and existing injection molding machines and auxiliary equipment. This enables us to provide suggestions that help you mold better parts, reduce initial scrap rates during start-up, and support a less costly launch of new products or product lines.

Moreover, when evaluating injection molded part design, we look beyond drawings to identify risk in wall transitions, shutoffs, tolerance stack-up, and downstream assembly performance. That practical, cross-functional perspective strengthens designs and helps teams move from concept to launch with greater confidence, efficiency, and long-term process stability.
